Горнодобыча в европейской Арктике

This factsheet has been drafted as a basis for consultations with stakeholders within the EU Arctic Impact Assessment. The final report will be available in Spring 2014, and will constitute an outcome of developing the content of this factsheet partly in the light of input from stakeholders.

Mining activity in the Arctic is intensifying in response to growing global demand. Mining contributes to economic development, but not without consequences. While mining is often significant for national economies, it is in local Arctic communities that the environmental, economic, and socio-cultural impacts are mostly felt.

This factsheet discusses:

  • Increase of mining activity in the European Arctic
  • Key environmental, economic and social impacts
  • Governance of mining developments
  • Significance of Arctic mining for the European Union
  • Relevant EU policies and actions
