This factsheet has been drafted as a basis for consultations with stakeholders within the EU Arctic Impact Assessment. The final report will be available in Spring 2014, and will constitute an outcome of developing the content of this factsheet partly in the light of input from stakeholders.
Globalisation processes such as greater mobility and economic integration fuel human activities which are putting pressure on land use in the European Arctic. Land-use changes may bring positive economic and negative environmental impacts as well as social challenges. Today, the Arctic region faces conflicts between various human activities that influence one another and compete for space.
