The 2017 conference will of course include real-life case studies and analysis on SAR operations at the mission level, and I am pleased to say that there will also be a strong focus on the strategic elements of Search and Rescue including: Planning, budgeting and training, as well as in-depth insight into the vessels and air platforms utilised on SAR missions. We will also explore the use of UAV's in SAR operations, and the legislative hurdles that must be overcome before they can be employed to their full potential.

It also gives me great pleasure to introduce our Chairman for 2017: Mr Richard Parkes, Director of Maritime Operations, UK Maritime and Coast Guard Agency.

Despite still being in the early planning stages, we have already confirmed crucial briefings from preeminent international speakers, including Rear Admiral Georg Larússon, General Director of the Icelandic Coast Guard, as well as SAR experts from the Royal Canadian Air Force, Greenland Police and more. I am also delighted to be welcoming, for the first time, representatives of the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, who will share the lessons they have learned following the Malaysian Flight MH370 incident.
